When most people hear the word music in the same sentence as Nova Scotia they conjure up sounds of fiddles, bagpipes and The Rankin Family.

Don’t get me wrong, I love traditional East Coast music but there’s so much more to the Atlantic Canadian music scene! Next week we’re bringing Juno Award winner Garrett Mason to Boston to give thanks to the City of Boston for their aid following the devastation of The Halifax Explosion.

On December 6, 1917, a French cargo ship, loaded with explosives accidentally collided with a ship set for Belgium in the Halifax Harbour. Approximately 2,000 people (mostly Canadians) were killed by debris, fires, or collapsed buildings, and it is estimated that over 9,000 people were injured. http://www.cbc.ca/halifaxexplosion/

91 years ago, The Halifax Explosion forever bridged the lives of the people of Boston and the citizens of Halifax, Nova Scotia. And next week on December 4th Nova Scotia shows our appreciation for the 37th year.

Check out Garrett Mason – he’s a true bluesman and will definitely make Nova Scotia proud!
