Christina Martin: A House Concert
House Concerts have recently become a very popular avenue of entertainment across North America. These shows are an intimate way to get to know artists who want to get to know their fans. Last week I attended a house concert at the home of Christina Martin and Dale Murray in a small community called Port Howe in Nova Scotia. The show’s concept was to record a live acoustic album properly titled, A House Concert. It will showcase the atmosphere of a house concert complete with insight into songs and interaction between the audience and the artists.
It was so interesting to find out where all these fans traveled from to this old farm house, down a dirt road and into the warm atmosphere of Christina and Dale’s
home studio. Fans traveled from areas of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Ontario. The Ontario couple decided to spend a week in Nova Scotia after receiving Christina’s update about the house concert. It was a chance to see one of their favourite artists live in her own home. A fun fact of this live recording was that it was fan funded through a fantastic company called PledgeMusic. They provide fans and artists the opportunity to work together to make new records and raise money for charity. Christina’s charity of choice was the Canadian Mental Health Foundation – Halifax/Dartmouth Branch. For this recording, by pledging, fans had the opportunity to gain access to exclusive incentives from the artist from tickets to attend the house concert to hand written lyric sheets.
