Tom Collins – Halifax’s Cocktail Party Band

Most are familiar with the Tom Collins Band for their unique jazz/lounge arrangements of popular tunes, perfect for martini chit-chat, receptions and dinner entertainment, but did you know that they can shake it up on the dance floor too?

Featuring dance party arrangements from Blondie, Abba, Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart, their energetic disco/pop sound is sure to please the party crowd.

If you prefer ballroom style dancing, no problem. Tom Collin’s also features stylized rhythms of the Rumba, Cha Cha, Foxtrot and Jive including Latin/jazz arrangements of Ozzy Osborne, Hall & Oats, Kiss and Lady Gaga.

NYE Rocked at Parade Square

During sound check I figured I’d get pretty soaked at this live show but thought to myself, “Who’s afraid of a little water”? I was prepared with a rain coat and rain boots but they were barely needed on New Year’s Eve by show time. The CTV/HRM event at Parade Square featuring Three Sheet and headlining act, The Mellotones, played to an audience of more than 5000 people. The rain eased off, just dropping in from time to time. The temperatures were pretty mild and the crowd was loving the show.
EMC of Three Sheet treated the crowd to a solo beat box number and they were not disappointed. The audience had their dancing shoes on and were loving the funky medleys from The Mellotones. I’m sure people could have stayed dancing into the wee hours. The band’s Facebook pages lit up like a Christmas Tree with big kudos from Newfoundland to Ontario.

The crew from the event worked a long day but it certainly paid off with a fantastic production. Special thanks to Liz Rigney for the invitation to play! Here’s a few shots from the show but I’m sure you’ll see more popping up on a Facebook page near you!

A favorite on the Halifax music scene for over 10 years, they bring their high energy show of R&B favourites from classic Motown to James Brown, funk, disco and beyond. The Mellotones are among some of the most skillful and in-demand musicians in the region. They are a tight ensemble with top-notch vocals and powerful horns backed by solid funky groove.

Habitat for Humanity Needs Volunteers Before the Holidays!

Habitat for Humanity is a community-based, not-for-profit organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live! Their mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

With the help of gracious volunteers, Habitat for Humanity has been working on a special house in our community for a very deserving family. The goal is to get this family in for Christmas and they need some extra help!

The LimeLight team had the opportunity to participate in this build, it was a very rewarding experience.

The building team is looking for anyone with a big heart and four hours to spare (you don’t need any home-building experience).

Together, we can bring this family home for the holidays.

Kick it Up for Dress for Success Halifax!

The LimeLight team is very excited to be attending the Kick it Up Event tonight, Thursday November 24 to support Dress for Success Halifax. Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization with a downtown location on Queen Street in Halifax. Their mission is to help disadvantaged women gain economic independence by providing them with professional attire, support and career development tools. Receiving five ballots with our Kick it Up ticket purchase, we already have a fantastic chance to win the gorgeous shoes or handbags we love the most!

This years Music Week 2011 was a huge success where many deserving musicians and industry professionals received recognition for their accomplishments.We’d like to extend a big congratulations to all of our LimeLight nominees including: Three Sheet, Zac Crouse, Christina Martin, Keith Mullins, Gypsophilia, Jordi Comstock, Adam Fine, Tanya Davis and Cassie & Maggie MacDonald.

Watch us Grow 2011 Conference

Today we had the amazing opportunity to participate in the Watch us Grow 2011 Conference hosted by The Center for Women in Business. Along with the pleasure of meeting many wonderful and like-minded business women, we had the opportunity to absorb the motivating words from two of our amazing speakers, Judy Thomson & Gayle Hallgren-Rezac. Authors of the book, Work The Pond and clearly passionate about making connections, this successful duo taught us “The Secrets of Positive Networking”. Along with many great networking tips, they taught us to help others network more comfortably and reminded us that networking is an attitude, not an event. With such positive feedback from conference guests, I suspect we’ll be seeing Judy & Gayle again really soon!

Making a Difference in Our Community.

What a great day for our Habitat for Humanity build. We met some great people and made a big difference for two special families. Did you know that Habitat for Humanity is the largest association of homebuilders worldwide? Habitat for Humanity has built, renovated or repaired over 500,000 homes! We also learned about our local Restore, located at 121 Ilsely Avenue in Dartmouth. This is a great place to purchase things like home appliances, paint, windows, fixtures and lumber at a discount price. Also donate any new or used items, proceeds go to this really great cause helping to brighten the future for low-income families. Thanks again Delta Halifax and Barrington for giving us this day to be involved in our community.

Habitat for Humanity

Tomorrow we are participating in a Habitat for Humanity build. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity through our colleagues at the Delta here in Halifax. The team at Deltas Halifax and Barrington produce a fantastic fundraising event called Raise a Little Help, A fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. They host this annual event at the Delta Halifax featuring some incredible song writers. The events in the past few years has featured some of the absolute best artists from our region like Steve Poltz, Christina Martin, David Myles, Matt Mays and Joel Plaskett. You must keep up to date on this event and get tickets in 2012.
But for tomorrow we pull out our work clothes… Not our usual dresses and boots… We mean old jeans and work gloves. I am anticipating an interesting day that I’m sure will also produce a few good laughs and some feel good moments.
